Climate Jobs Voices: Meet Kilton Webb, electrician, IBEW Local 567 member
Kilton Webb is a union electrician with IBEW Local 567 in Auburn, Maine. He recently finished his apprenticeship classes and will soon test to become a journeyman electrician.
“You can’t make things better if you don’t train the next generation of workers. And you can’t just hire any company to do this work, we need union training. We need the best. Solar fields specifically have been great for apprentices because you just need so many people. Since the solar boom took off a few years ago, it’s given everyone work. We’re training the next generation in these fields.”
Climate Jobs Voices: Meet Seanelle Leesang, science teacher, UFT member
“In recent years, climate work has played a major role at I.S. 68. I’ve been a member of the Eco and Sustainability team for eight years now. We strive to make our students and the larger community aware of climate issues. We’ve created a sustainability curriculum and have incorporated it into our daily teaching. There’s also an after-school eco club, where students can participate in activities such as gardening, repurposing items, and recycling programs.”
